What do the four LED’s on the top right of the keyboard indicate?

Caps Lock, Num Lock, Scroll Lock and Fn. When the Fn light is illuminated it means that the keyboard is in the secondary (“embedded”) layer and each key will produce secondary key actions legended in blue.

My pivot tether, can I get a replacement?

Yes, replacement Pivot Tethers can be purchased from the Kinesis Store.

Can I change the hotkeys or create custom layouts on my Freestyle keyboard?

No. The Freestyle keyboard is not programmable. If you are looking for a programmable split keyboard, checkout the new Freestyle Pro.

Will the Freestyle2 PC work on my Mac?

The hot-keys on the left side of the Freestyle will only work with the specific operating system it was designed for. If you connect a PC Freestyle2 to a Mac the hot-keys will not work, however as a work-around you can swap Ctrl with Command in the operating system which will allow the hot-keys to work:

Go to System Preferences/Keyboard/modifier keys (make sure the selected device is for the Freestyle keyboard (KB800PB)). Swap Ctrl with Command. Now the hot-keys will work as intended. This will also make the individual Ctrl keys behave as Command keys, which makes more sense on a Mac.

Do I need to install any software or drivers?

No. The Freestyle keyboard is recognized by the operating system as a standard USB device and thus loads the default keyboard driver on the operating system. The Freestyle2 keyboard is plug & play.

Can I plug the Freestyle2 for Mac into the USB port of the Freestyle2 keypad?

No, and neither can you do the reverse. Games free download for mac. Both the FS2 keyboard for Mac and the FS2 keypad have USB ports and you cannot plug a hub into a hub unless the latter has an external power supply.

The Freestyle PC keyboard has an embedded numeric 10-key on the right side of the keyboard. When the keypad key is on, as well as Num Lock, the keys on the right side will produce numbers. Simply press and release the “Fn” key (bottom left of the keyboard) to toggle on and off.

If your keyboard has a single dead key, it may be worth removing the keycap and spraying canned air to make sure there isn’t any dirt or debris causing the key to fail. A trick to remove the keycap is to use two paper clips- bend them in the shape of a hook or “J” and pull the keycap straight up) and spray canned air inside the key switch to remove any dirt/debris. If there appears to be any sticky residues on the keycap or on the key switch, try to clean the area as best as you can (usually a damp paper towel is good enough).

Left palm support does not fully engage into the slots of the keyboard

We discovered this problem in early September 2020. The issue is that the left bottom case got modified without our knowledge preventing the full length of the palm rest tabs from fitting into the slots in the bottom of the keyboard case. The bottom case is being restored to the original design for future productions.

The solution is to shorten the (3) tabs on the left palm support. In late October 2020 we plan on receiving a batch with shorter tabs on the left palm support. If you do not want to wait that long we have (2) other options:

Freestyle 2 For Mac

1) Send out a replacement left palm support that has been trimmed at Kinesis.
2) Trimming the tabs yourself, by removing approximately 1/8 inch from the end of each of the three flat tabs (just be careful not to cut yourself). If the result is not satisfactory you can request the new “molded shorter” version when they arrive.

The Freestyle2 is backed by a two year limited warranty

Kinesis offers one of the most versatile keyboards currently manufactured in a model specifically designed for the Mac. The Freestyle2 for Mac is an adjustable, separated keyboard offering considerable ergonomic benefits. The Freestyle2 is divided into two separate modules connected by either a 9' (the most common) or 20' cable. This separation enables individuals to position the left and right sides of the keyboard shoulder width apart, allowing the shoulders, elbows, arms and wrists to relax in an anatomically neutral position. This greatly improves posture and blood flow in the upper body, prevents undesirable rotation at the shoulders, and eliminates ulnar deviation at the wrist.
The compact symmetrical layout is achieved by removing the numeric keypad found on the right side of most keyboards. This reduces the reach for the mouse for right-handed individuals and optimizes the workspace for everyone. The Freestyle2 Keyboard provides access to numbers along the top row or if needed an external numeric keypad can be added.(Please see the Numeric Keypads category for external numeric keypads that are compatible with the Freestyle2 Keyboard for Mac.)
The Freestyle2 Keyboard features low-force, tactile membrane keyswitches. At only 45 grams, this is at least 25% less force than most traditional and even many other ergonomic keyboards. Rated at 10 million actuations, the keyswitches on the Freestyle2 will provide years of quiet, comfortable typing. As an added convenience for Mac users, the Mac version of the Freestyle2 is equipped with a dual USB hub to expand connection options for low-power peripherals such as mice, flash drives, or an external numeric keypad.
Note: The Freestyle2 Keyboard comes with a component that secures the two modules together at a pivot point. Although this Pivot Tether is intended primarily to secure the two modules during transport, it can be used, to create a splayed (i.e. joined at the centre top) keyboard. However, this configuration will significantly limit the ergonomic benefits.
The Freestyle2 Keyboard for Mac can be further customized with one or more of the Optional Accessory Kits described below (sold separately). With the addition of the appropriate Accessory Kit, this already highly configurable keyboard can be customized to provide even more ergonomic benefits.

Optional Accessory Kits

Palm Support Accessory Kit: Palm Supports can be attached to the keyboard to provide support and to prevent wrist extension. The Palm Support Accessory includes Lycra-padded Palm Pads that provide a soft surface for the Palm Supports and help to prevent pinch points on the underside of the palms. Note: Palm Supports will notFreestyle 2 For Mac fit on the V3 Accessory. If the combination of tenting and palm supports is desired the VIP3 Accessory (below) should be purchased.
V3 Accessory Kit:

Kinesis Freestyle2 For Mac

The V3 Accessory allows the keyboard to be tented to 5°, 10°, and 15° to help reduce pronation. The V3 Accessory does not include Palm Supports. (This accessory is worth considering if tenting is required, but the keyboard location is a tray with built-in palm supports.)
VIP3 Accessory Kit: The popular VIP3 Accessory allows the keyboard to be tented at 5°, 10°, and 15° to help reduce pronation. The VIP3 Accessory includes Palm Supports that move as the keyboard is tented, helping to reduce wrist extension by offering full support at all angles. If desired the tenting mechanisms can also be detached at any time with the palm supports being retained for a more traditional keyboard position.
Ascent Accessory Kit: The more specialized Ascent Accessory independently tents the left and right modules of the keyboard in 10° increments, from 20° to a full 90°. The Ascent Accessory can be used with the Palm Supports at angles up to 40°. The 20' linking cable is generally advised when using the Ascent Accessory, as the longer cable facilitates better ergonomic positioning and allows greater flexibility. A linking plate, included with the Ascent Accessory, can be attached if desired to increase the stability of the two modules.
Palm Pads Accessory Kit: Includes one pair of replacement Palm Pads for the Freestyle2 keyboard which are also compatible with its predecessor, the Freestyle Solo. The Palm Pads are custom-fitted and attach directly to the Palm Support Accessory. The pads are approximately 0.25' thick and made of closed cell foam with a gel-like feel, and are covered with a smooth Lycra fabric. The pads can be removed easily when they need to be replaced. One pair of Palm Pads is included with the purchase of either the Palm Support Accessory Kit or the VIP3 Accessory Kit.
